Overview
Contact lens assessments and aftercare appointments are carried out by our Optometrist. You might have voiced an interest or your Optometrist may have recommended contact lenses as a useful alternative form of vision correction.
There are many different types of contact lens available today and the suitability of these for your individual needs will be fully discussed. Again, because we are independent practitioners, we are not tied to a few specific products and so you may be assured that the best product to meet your needs will always be available.
The optometrist will examine the front structures of your eyes, including the cornea where the lens will sit. The examination will also include your lids, lashes and tear film. If there are reasons that contact lens wear is not suitable for you, this will be discussed and explained with you. If (as in most cases) all is well, a trial pair of lenses will be fitted on your eyes. These generally need a little time to settle and will then be assessed for fit, vision and comfort. You will be instructed on the insertion and removal of the lenses, cleaning and handling the lenses and recommended wearing times.
A follow up appointment will be made for you around a week after your trial fit. At this appointment, your eyes, vision and contact lens fit/comfort will be reassessed and any difficulties experienced will be discussed. Assuming all is well, your first supply of lenses can be ordered for you at this point.
